---- Chapter 10 "Selena, I'm back-" Halfway through his sentence, Edmund's voice abruptly cut off. The bedroom before him felt strangely empty. The wardrobe, dressing table, and drawers were all bare. It was as if no one had ever lived there. Just as he was about to turn and leave, his gaze was suddenly drawn to a red file on the table. With a frown, he walked over. The moment he saw the words "Divorce Certificate", his heart clenched violently.

He couldn't believe that Selena would resort to such scare tactics. To think that she faked this to get at him! He had never signed any divorce papers, nor had he been to the courthouse . How could there possibly be a divorce certificate? Edmund kept reassuring himself that it wasn't true. However, panic took over. His body moved instinctively and propelled him to leave the bedroom. He searched the entire villa, but there was no sign of Selena. The unease in his chest grew stronger.

Only then did he remember the promise he made. ---- Selena must have gone to Mount Versuval in her wedding dress to wait for him. They had agreed that he would make up for the proposal that he owed her on their wedding anniversary. Edmund ran out, sprinting as fast as he could. When he arrived at Mount Versuval, a large crowd had gathered at the base. A police cordon had been set up to keep onlookers away. A terrible sense of dread gripped his heart. "T heard a young woman jumped off the cliff.

She was so young! What a pity." "She must be grieving her lost love. She was even wearing a wedding dress!" "A young woman in a wedding dress?" Edmund echoed inwardly, his heart skipping a beat. He muttered under his breath in disbelief, No... No, that's impossible. Selena wouldn't..." He shoved people aside with bloodshot eyes and rushed through the crowd. For the first time, the man who had always dominated the business world was completely at a loss.

He stumbled forward, unable to form a single coherent sentence. A police officer tried to console him patiently . "Mr. ---- Gilead , please stay calm. We found this phone near the gravestone. Can you confirm if it belongs to your wife?" The last bit of hope Edmund had been holding on to shattered the moment he saw the phone in the officer's hand. His legs gave out, and he collapsed to his knees. Acrushing pain tore through his chest. It was so unbearable that he could hardly breathe .

Next, the tears came, and they fell one after another. How did things end up like this? Just this morning , Selena was still by his side. Upon seeing his reaction , the officer could hazard a guess as to what had happened. With a hint of sympathy, he lowered his voice and asked, "Was your wife acquainted with the person buried here? His name is Herman Sorenson. Some witnesses saw her staying at his grave for a long time. " Edmund's mind was in complete chaos.

Confusion filled his eyes when he heard that name. They had been married for five years, yet he had never once bothered to learn more about Selena. He didn't know where she came from, who her friends were, or if she had any family. In the end, all he could do was send the name " ---- Herman Sorenson" to Christian. If he had looked at the gravestone for just a moment longer, he would have noticed that the man in the photograph bore a striking resemblance to him.

The sky had completely darkened by then. Edmund refused the officer's offer to accompany him and stumbled down the mountain alone. He had no idea how many times he fell. His expensive tailored suit was covered in dirt. His forehead became bruised and bloodied. People passing by cast him strange looks. However , he paid no mind to himself or them at all. When he finally reached home, he instinctively walked toward the second floor. Then, he saw the light shining from inside the bedroom.

His heart thundered violently. It had to be Selena! He knew it! She wasn't really gone! With reddened eyes, he rushed toward the bedroom immediately.
