---- Chapter 20 Selena, unaffected by Edmund's appearance, returned home and eagerly placed the two chubby ceramic dolls in the display case. She had also specially chosen a conspicuous spot, ensuring that Herman would notice them upon returning home. In the hazy space between dreams and consciousness, Selena felt a strong yet familiar presence wrapping around her waist, causing her to instinctively snuggle into Herman's embrace.

Upon awakening the following morning, Selena noticed that Herman was no longer there. She then picked up her phone and found several unread messages waiting for her. "Tt seems like there's a problem with the contract, soI have to go to Urdania to take care of it. I'll be back ina couple of days, so stay put and wait for me, alright? I noticed the ceramic dolls you crafted yesterday and they're absolutely adorable.

I hope our future child will be as cute as well!" Upon reading the last sentence, Selena blushed slightly and replied, "Got it, Herman. You have to take care of yourself too." It was clear that over the past five years, she had grown accustomed to her own company due to ---- Edmund's frequent business trips or visits to Claire.

However, the recent days spent consistently with Herman had perhaps altered her accustomed state, and his sudden absence created an unexpected sense of discomfort within her. On the third evening of Herman's absence, Selena found herself sitting alone at the dining table, finishing her meal in silence. Upon seeing the vacant seat across from her, Selena couldn't help but feel a wave of loneliness washing over her. She had no choice but to seek an activity to divert her attention.

Yet, no matter what she did, everything felt lackluster-even her favorite LEGO set couldn't keep her engaged. It was then that Herman suddenly initiated a video call, asking, "Why the long face? Are you feeling unwell? Is something bothering you? I heard from the housekeeper that you didn't eat much for dinner tonight." Selena shook her head and replied, "I'm fine.

I just don't feel like eating much." She then hesitated for a moment before covering her face with her hand, leaving only her eyes visible as she gazed intently at Herman and murmured, "I kind of miss you, Herman." Herman's gaze flickered with surprise on the other side of the video call before saying, "I'll be done with ---- my work here tomorrow.

I'll change my flight to tomorrow night instead of the day after, then." Selena's intended refusal was cut short by Herman's deep, heartfelt declaration , saying, "I miss you too, Sellie." Herman's low, husky murmur, resonated through the phone and into Selena's ears, causing her cheeks to flush almost immediately. Selena deliberately made a trip to the florist on the following day, thoughtfully picking out some flowers to decorate the house.

Upon alighting the car with her bouquet of flowers , Selena noticed a car parked at the entrance of the Sorenson residence. She then turned to the chauffeur and asked, "Is someone visiting?" Having glanced at the license plate, the chauffeur replied, "It's one of the cars Mr. Sorenson often uses. It seems like Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson have returned from abroad." Selena immediately froze in place, her thoughts racing as Edmund's remarks filled her mind.

"You ought to know that five years ago, Herman's parents accepted your relationship with Herman due to your familiar background, having grown up alongside him. What about now, though? Given the standing of the Sorenson family, do you believe they ---- would permit their only son to marry a divorced woman?" Selena had acted indifferent at that time, but she couldn't help but feel a bit apprehensive at the moment.

Though Herman didn't mind her past, Selena wasn't sure if his parents would share the same sentiment and approve of their marriage. Selena had been living with the Sorenson family since her adolescence, and even though Herman's parents, Howard Sorenson and Matilda Johnson, had always been kind to her, the passage of five years was more than enough to bring about significant changes.

It didn't matter , though , as she was determined to remain by Herman's side, never separating from him ever again. She then, emboldened by this certainty , took a deep breath and walked into the house. "You're finally back, Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson..." Selena's voice trailed off as she recognized the man seated across from Howard and Matilda.
