---- Chapter 11 Even though it was the dead of night, Seth was still driving in circles on the highway. His gaze was fixed on his phone the entire time. However, there wasn't a single phone call, much less a text. His eyebrows furrowed , and tension began to fill the car. He didn't know why Emma's attitude had changed so drastically since the day she found him and June in the study of their marital home. + In the past, she used to send him dozens of texts every day.
Yet, ever since that day, there hadn't been a single message from her. In fact, the only call in his call history was when he called her to ask to meet at the hospital. He'd grown up with Emma, so he knew better than anyone how stubborn and proud her personality was. The most lowly thing she'd ever done in life was to follow him like a shadow and love him wholly for years. ---- Seth understood that Emma might not be able to accept June's baby all of a sudden. But it was fine.
As time passed, she'd come to realize that she had no other choice but to accept it. If the Burton family hadn't crossed the line all those years ago, then Seth wouldn't have resorted to this. What they had between them was real. + Otherwise , their relationship wouldn't have lasted over a decade. Suddenly, his phone started vibrating. He immediately answered it. His eyes were shining with anticipation. However , it was John's voice that sounded over the phone.

The hope that sparked inside Seth's heart was instantly extinguished. Ina hesitant and cautious tone, John said, "Mr. Hunter, I've checked every hospital in Javena, but there's no record of Mrs. Hunter's hospitalization ." Seth's heart stopped abruptly. Gritting his teeth, he asked with concern mixed with fury, "How could she not go to the hospital after that fall? Is she purposely trying to piss me off?" John didn't dare to answer. ---- Seth slammed his palm on the steering wheel.
Finally, he let out a sigh and gave in. "I'll go check on her. Make sure someone keeps an eye on June's condition. "I don't care if something happens to her, but keep the baby safe." With that, he hung up the phone. His mind was racing, and he didn't even notice what was in front of him. When he finally saw the trunk of another car getting closer, he belatedly tried to yank the steering wheel to the side and step on the brakes. However, he was still too late. First, he heard a deafening crash.
Then, his head and body lurched forward uncontrollably. At that moment, the violent impact made him lose consciousness. When he awoke again, all he could hear was the blaring of the ambulance sirens. Ignoring his splitting headache, he mustered all his strength to push the car door open. He stumbled out of the car. His face was covered in blood. ---- Pedestrians and paramedics alike stared at him in horror. Yet, he remained oblivious to his condition.
He staggered his way to the side of the road, looking like he was about to keel over at any moment. In that instant, he felt like he was going to die. But Emma popped into his head. If he died, she would be devastated. This thought shocked him awake. In a sorry state, he pressed a hand to the wound on his head. Crouching on the side of the road, he took out his phone with trembling hands. His fingers dialed Emma's number of their own volition.
His heart thumped wildly as a sense of lingering fear overtook him. Suddenly, he really wanted to hear Emma's voice. When the dial tone stopped ringing, Seth said hurriedly, "Emma, where are you? I just-" But before he could finish speaking, his rambling was interrupted by a robotic voice, "Sorry, the number you have dialed cannot be reached..."
