---- Monika cries. He hates it even more when he's the reason why Monika is crying. He loves Monika so much- infinitely, endlessly-and yet he makes Monika cry. But it's important ; he is doing this for both of them. For both of their futures. Amoment passes, then Monika loops her arm around Sam's shoulders and presses her face into Sam's neck. Her collar gets wetter by the second, and all she can do is softly kiss Monika's neck and rub her back consolingly.

"Your classmate is so annoying, and I hate him with a burning passion ," Monika announces after a long, long while. Her voice is raw and scratchy, but she seems to be much calmer now, and Sam is relieved . "I'm only talking to him because he's your classmate. " That's probably an exaggeration because Sam has seen Monika 'hang out' in the canteen many times. So, to say that Monika hates Jack would be a lie. Still, Sam just laughs and kisses Monika collarbone.

" Are you saying you love me enough to tolerate Jack and his ridiculousness?" Monika draws back slightly to him in the eyes and says very seriously, "I'm saying I love you so much I'd do anything for you. Even I have to tolerate that ---- stupid jack, even in the future." This time, it's Sam's eyes that are watering. He lets out a wet snort and hides his face in the crook of Monika's neck. "T love you so much, Monika," Sam tells her.

He's crying a bit, and he's pretty sure Monika is aware of it because Monika is humming softly. One of her hands rubs soothing circles between his shoulder blades while the other ruffles his hair gently. "T love you," Sam says again. Monika hums a happier tune into his ears. "T love you more than any dream."
