After Ashly had eaten and taken Hiler medicine , the pain on her face eased considerably , but she seemed exhausted. It was fairly easy to convince her to lie back down and nap for a while, and by the time she woke up, they were finished and Alex had just sent everyone home. "Hey," Alex said, crouching beside the sofa and brushing some hair out of Ashly's bleary eyes. "How do you feel, baby? It's still hurting." Ashly blinked several times, taking stock of her surroundings slowly.

"Work?" she asked instead of answering the question. Alex sighed fondly and replied, "Finished. Everyone's gone home. We should go too. You need to rest." ---- "I'm fine," Ashly insisted , pushing herself up on an elbow and scrubbing at her eyes with the other hand. Her hair was flat on one side, and there were pillow creases on her cheek. Alex had to fight not to coo at her. Well, if he did, Ashly would kill him for sure.
Alex hovered at her side, asking , "Are you sure you don't need to go to the hospital?" "Pm fine, Alex," Ashly grumbled , turning a baleful glare at him. "Sorry," Alex mumbled , cowed. "I'm just worried ." Ashly's face softened then, and she cupped Alex's cheek gently in one hand. "Thank you," she said sincerely. "But I promise, I really am fine." Alex took a breath to calm himself.
"You'll tell me if you're in pain." "Pll tell you if I 'm in pain," Ashly confirmed, and then patted Alex's cheek. "I'm not an idiot." "you kind of are," Alex corrected , turning to kiss the center of Ashly's palm. He got smacked for his comment -a bright tap on his forehead that made him startle back but didn't actually hurt. Ashly stretched languidly, mesmerizing Alex just with the long lines of his body, and then stood. "Let's go home," she said, gathering her things. ---- Alex scrambled to follow.
