---- 47. ANGEL Mason disappeared for a few minutes after we finished our shower. I knew that Xavier was keeping guard outside the room. While I waited for him to return, I made the bed. My eyes darted over to the window. [hesitated a moment before I walked over to the windows to make sure that it was locked. With nothing else to do, I studied the room as I walked around it aimlessly. When I thought about my future, I always imagined myself working a nine-to-five job that I hated.
There was always going to be struggles with rent and shit. But now my future was different. My lips curled into a smile when I spotted the books. "Come on," he urged. I followed him to the other side of the room where he opened the door and glanced around to make sure that nobody was there. He held it open for me and closed it firmly behind me when I entered.
A few minutes later we were seated on the couch, plates with eggs and bacon on our laps. "How is it?" he asked. "Good," I told him. "Really?" He looked surprised. "Yes, it's good." Mason's lips slowly curled into a smile. "I made it myself, with supervision from the cook of course." Taking out empty plates, he placed them aside and then reached for the bags of books to pull them closer. "T was hoping to have more time to talk about this," he said softly as he opened the book. "I had plans to
