---- 46. MASON Goosebumps covered every inch of my skin. I shivered and pulled the sheets up to my chin. It did nothing to fight off the cold. Frowning , I forced my eyes open and blinked at the face resting inches from mine. Behind me someone moved, making warm skin brush against mine. I relaxed , only to tense again when a cold breeze filled the room. Frowning, I sat up and glanced around the room. The window was open, wind rustling the curtains. Snow covered the floor.

Movement had my eyes snapping towards the couches. A figure dressed in all black was slowly straightening. My heartbeat increased, fear filling me when I realized that the man was staring straight at me. He had snow goggles on and something black covered the lower half of his face. Raising a gloved hand, he pressed a finger to his lips. My lips parted but no sound escaped. Tilting his head to the side, he pointed at me and then at the small coffee table.

I followed his finger to the white envelope that had ---- been placed down on it. When my eyes darted back to him it was only to catch a glimpse of him as he jumped out of the open window. Gasping , I scrambled out of bed, ignoring Mason's grunt as I kicked him in to process. Icy wind assaulted my skin and made my eyes water. "What happened?" One of them appeared at my back and together we watched the man disappear from sight. "The guards are slacking again," Nate growled.

"I'll go after them." "Don't," I croaked. Mason wrapped his arms around me and pulled me away from the window before he reached out and slammed the window closed. Ihesitated a moment before I walked over to the coffee table. "Angel?" Nate appeared at my side, wrapping a blanket over my shoulders . "Did he say anything ?" Shaking my head, I pointed at the envelope. "He left that." Mason picked it up and ripped it open. Pulling the letter out, he glanced at us before he unfolded it.

"She knows that your mate is still alive," he read out ---- loud. "There's talk around town...she's offering a large sum of money and making empty promises to anyone willing to take your mate out." My stomach twisted with nausea. I turned towards Nate. He took one look at my face and then pulled me against his chest. Behind me, Mason muttered a curse. I had been awake when they were talking last night. I heard everything they said. Lucas didn't agree with what Nate and Mason had planned.

"T need to show Lucas," Mason muttered. Nate's arms loosened. "I'll take it to him." Pressing a kiss on my forehead, he took the letter from his brother and then hurried out of the room. I stared at the closed door until Mason pulled my attention away from it. "Let's get you warm," he said softly as he steered me in the direction of the bathroom. I watched as he opened the taps and tested the temperature. Mason made sure that there was a clean towel before he turned to me.

Pulling the blanket from my shoulders , he threw it aside. I raised my arms so he could pull the shirt off. He helped me into the shower first and then started undressing.
