---- 38. ANGEL It was freezing. I bit my lip to stop a giggle from escaping. Winter was one of the seasons I absolutely hated due to the cold, and I landed myself in another world where the cold was made especially for them. Lucas's hands covered mine, making some of the cold disappear. I was dressed from head to toe in winter gear, and for that I was thankful . His body pressed to my back at least blocked the cold from my back. My eyes darted around, but all I saw was snow.

Snow-covered mountains , and the castle , and some buildings from town. The town looked a lot bigger than I imagined it to be. Nate suddenly swooped down, making my heart drop to my stomach. My hold on the saddle tightened as I fought the pull of my body. He turned to the left and then to the right. We were nearing the castle. I looked down and instantly wished I hadn't. Wow, that's high! ---- Movement from the corner of my eyes caught my attention .

My head snapped in that direction , but it was too late. Nate roared. His body jerked to the right. Lucas's arm slipped around my waist and just in time. Another roar fell from Nate's mouth as his body jerked. My hold on the saddle loosened . I struggled to get a grip on the saddle, but it was proven useless when Nate's body suddenly twisted sharply. I screamed, blinking up at the sky. We were falling. Today's the day I die. Lucas's arms around my hips tightened painfully.

Why wasn't he screaming? Why wasn't he panicking? We were going to fall to our death. Any second now, we would be a splat on the ground. The arms around my waist thickened , and the skin changed to scales. Sharp claws dug into the tick jacket, creating tears in the material. In the next second, I was engulfed by wings. The impact of us hitting the ground wasn't even softened by the snow covering it. A grunt fell from Lucas's lips, followed by a low growl.

---- His wings slowly opened, making me blink at the suddenly bright light. Lucas slowly rolled onto his side and lowered me to the ground. He hovered over me, his dragon tall and intimidating. It would have been scary if I hadn't seen them shift before. "Stay down," he growled in my head. I nodded, reaching up to press my hand to his chest. The contact only lasted a few seconds before he was moving away. I turned onto my side to watch him.

Panic filled me when my eyes locked on Nate a few feet away. He had something sticking out of his chest. My eyes darted around, searching for Lucas, but he was nowhere to be found. Rolling onto my stomach, I started crawling towards him. His chest rose and fell with every breath he took. Relief flooded me when I realized that he was still alive, but he was bleeding profusely from his injury. "Should I pull it out?" I whispered. Nate raised his head to look at me.

I gasped when he nudged me forward with one of his wings. Moving closer, I pressed a hand to his chest and gripped the thing stuck in his body.
