---- 22. LUCAS She smelled like them. Ihad no idea why I agreed to guard her. Xavier was busy but there were a lot of other guards I could have arranged to look after Angel. You don't trust them. Not after what happened with the last guard. She was a temptation that they found hard to resist, especially because of her rare blood type. She certainly was a temptation I was fighting hard to resist. Reaching up, I pinched the bridge of my nose and blew out a breath.

I was trying really hard to concentrate on my work. Angel was silently reading by the window, but I was hyper-aware of her. Ineeded to get the papers signed and handled. My brothers were busy with their own preparations for the upcoming dinner. "Do you need any help?" I slowly raised my head to look at her. "How do you think you're going to be able to help me?" She licked her lips, making my eyes drop to follow the ---- movement. Angel's eyes darted over my desk and then locked with mine again.

"Maybe I can help you organize the papers." "These are a lot of important papers, little rabbit. They're not for curious eyes." Angel smiled. "I won't read it." "How are you going to organize it if you don't read it?" I asked her. She bit her lip. "I didn't think of that." I watched her. "Do you really want to help?" I asked her after a few minutes. Angel nodded. My eyes darted around the desk as I gestured her closer. Stopping next to the desk, she waited silently for my next order.

"Okay." Angel took the paper and walked around the other side of the desk.

For the next ten minutes, she searched through the papers, organizing them without pausing to read whatever was written on them. "Aren't you even a bit curious?" I asked her. She frowned. "No, it looks like important papers, and it has nothing to do with me." "Any other person would have been curious to know what was on it." "Tm not any other person," she muttered. Ismiled. "Ym done," she said moments later.

I showed her the next papers she needed to sort and then turned my focus back on the invitations I needed to sign. The dinner was next week and none of the invitations had been sent out yet. It should have been done a few days ago, but I was busy trying to keep my mother from getting to Angel. An hour and a half later my desk had been neatly organized by Angel, including the invitations I had finished signing. She had retaken her seat by the window, but instead of reading, she was staring out
