---- 41. NATE Angel hadn't said a word to me since I explained things to her. I was waiting for her to start asking questions , but she wasn't. A knock on the door made me tense. I hesitated before I stood. "Pl be right back," I told her before I hurried out of the kitchen. Pulling the door open a few inches, I checked to make sure that it was only one of the maids before I opened it wider. "Thank you," I muttered , taking the tray from her.

"Do you feel any better, sir?" I blinked at her, forgetting that I had taken time off with the excuse that I was sick. "Yes, thank you." Islammed the door closed before she could ask any more questions. My excuse was already questionable because it was extremely rare for our kind to get sick, but at least I had the attack on us to use as an excuse. When I turned around, Angel was just exiting the bathroom . My eyes trailed over her. I couldn't stop the heat flashing through my body.

She looked beautiful in everything she wore, even a towel. ---- Placing the tray down on the bed, I made my way to the closet and pulled out one of my shirts. Halfway back to her, I froze when a thought hit me. "Are you cold?" I asked her. "A little, but I'll just slip back under the covers." Ihesitated. Angel walked over to me. Stopping in front of me, she dropped the towel and smiled as she reached for the shirt. I helped her pull it on and then picked her up to carry her over to the bed.

Once she was settled against the pillows , I placed the tray on her lap and took a seat opposite her. Angel stared down at the door. "Are you sure it's not poisoned?" "For the time being, my mother thinks you're dead," Itold her. Her eyes snapped up to mine. "We know that she was behind everything." I picked up a piece of toast and sniffed at it. "It's safe to eat." And to prove it, I took a bite and then held it out to her. Angel took the toast and started eating.

"Lucas is...he is a bit emotional after everything that ---- happened so his moods are all over the place. He's also worried about how you're going to react. His moods are making it believable for Mother." Her eyes darted over my face. "am I going to get more tattoos if you and Mason mark me?" she questioned. "Marks," I automatically corrected her. "It's our mark. A claim to let everyone know that you belong to us." She held up her wrist to show me the brand Lucas burned into her skin.

"I already have a claim." I frowned at her, unsure how else to explain it to her. Reaching out, I gently gripped her wrist and rubbed my thumb over the brand. "It's different," I told her. " This mark represents the kingdom." My hand slid up her arm to the mark on her shoulder. "This mark represents your bond with your mate." Her brows dipped as she stared down at her hands. Without saying anything, she reached for another piece of toast and took a bite. My frown deepened as I watched her.

There was something different about our mate, but I couldn't place my finger on it. Was she still in shock? Was the magic from the spears still affecting her?
