---- dungeon. I missed him, but I wasn't going to tell him that. "T got you something ." He pulled something out of his pocket, but he didn't hold it up for me to get a look atit. Lucas slipped the necklace around my neck and fastened it. His hands rested on my shoulders for a few seconds before they dropped away. I stared at the pendant resting against my skin. It looked exactly the same as the brand that was burned into the skin of my wrist.
The only difference was the fact that the pendant had some color. Three colors to be exact. Blue. Forest green, and gold. "T-thank you," I whispered as I reached up to brush my finger against it. Smiling, he lowered his head and brushed his lips along the back of my neck. I swallowed , sucking in a shaky breath. "Mason is going to escort you to dinner," he said softly. "Don't pay any attention to Mother's jabs." "T told them that it's a bad idea for me to go to this dinner," I told him.

Gripping my hips Lucas spun me around to face him. ---- He took hold of my chin and tilted my head back as he leaned down. His lips barely brushed mine before he pulled away again. Lucas lingered for a second more and then hurried away. I brushed my fingertips along my lips. Before I could dwell on it any longer, there was a soft knock on my door. Soothing my hands down my dress, I sucked in a deep breath and slowly blew it out as I made my way towards the door.
My eyes widened when they locked on Mason. Ihad never seen him wear his traditional clothing before. He looked even better in it than he looked naked. Heat instantly flooded my body. Mason muttered a curse. "You look fucking beautiful, baby." "So do you," I breathed. "I mean you look handsome." He smiled, but the smile slipped away the moment his eyes locked on the necklace around my neck. Reaching up, he took hold of the pendant and flipped it around. "Did Nate give you this?" he asked.
---- I shook my head. "L-Lucas." My eyes darted over his face, searching for any sign of anger, but I found none. His emotions were unreadable. "We should get going," he said as he took a step back. "Don't want to be late." He held his arm out for me. Smiling, I slipped my hand into the crook of his arm and allowed him to lead me down the hall. Thad a feeling that the dinner was going to be a disaster . Mason had told me some more about their Mother's hate towards humans.
It was understandable, but it still had nothing to do with me. I didn't have any part in what had happened in the future. "'m certain that they are going to pick you apart," he said softly. "It's not going to do any good if I tell you to just ignore them because they are going to be brutal. Mother will use her words to make you crumble because Lucas forbade her from hurting you physically." "Is Lucas's wife also going to be there?" I asked him. He didn't answer me immediately.
"If she is well enough," Mason muttered. "Has she been ill?" It would explain why I hadn't seen ---- Lucas around at all. "Nothing to worry about ," he muttered . "It comes with the pregnancy." "Qh." He covered his hand with mine and gave it a slight squeeze as we neared the dining hall doors. "Ready?" I gave him a stiff nod. It was too late to back out now. I just hoped I was ready for what they were about to throw at me.
