---- 53. ANGEL "You look good with a baby in your arms." I glared at Lucas which only made his smile widen. We were stuck in the car somewhere in town with protesters surrounding us. They were yelling and slamming their fists on the car but so far nobody had tried anything back. "Tm trying to distract you." "And here I thought you just had the worst timing to start a serious conversation," I muttered. Chuckling , Lucas scooted across the seat until he sat in the middle and then reached for me.
I didn't protest when he pulled me onto his lap. My body instantly relaxed against his. "T do mean it though," he said softly. I sighed , rubbing my cheek against the soft cloth of his jacket over his heart. The organ was beating a mile aminute, almost matching mine. "T've been thinking," I whispered. "Do you have a foster home for foster children?" Lucas was silent for a few minutes before he answered me. "Most of the children are usually taken in by ---- family members.

We've never had to deal with children that didn't have homes." "Oh." "But you have me thinking about it," he muttered. " I'll look into this and see if we can build a home like the one you described to me for children." "T know so little about your kingdom." "Our Kingdom," he growled. "I know that you'll learn about it just like you've been learning about us." I pursed my lips. Learning about them had been easy. We were talking about a whole kingdom with rules that had to be followed.
How was I expected to runa kingdom? People already hated me just like Lucas said they would. Gripping my chin, he tilted my head back at the same time as he lowered his head and pressed his lips to mine. I instantly kissed him back, until I remembered where we were. I pulled away and frowned at him. "Lucas-" "We might be stuck here for hours until they calm enough and go back home." His lips twitched. " Nobody can see inside the car." My eyes narrowed into a glare.
A surprised gasp fell from my lips when he easily maneuvered me onto his lap, so I straddled him. I gripped his shoulders, intent ---- on pushing him away and climbing off his lap, but he wrapped an arm around my waist to hold me in place. "Tm sorry. I didn't know that word was going to spread so fast," he said softly. "I would have made better arrangements for us to leave the castle. I should have, but I didn't think." He meant every word. Isighed. The car suddenly started moving.
If it wasn't for his hold around my waist, I would have jerked backward. It instantly came to a sudden stop again. Muttering a curse, Lucas lowered me back to the seat and pulled the seat belt across my chest to clip it in place. "What's happening, Xavier?" My eyes snapped up when he spoke. The divider had lowered between us and the front passengers of the car. I knew that the car was surrounded by people, but I didn't know exactly how many. It seemed that there were a lot of haters.
"T don't want to hurt them, sire." "That will cause more problems we don't need," Lucas growled. "Is there a way around?" Xavier shook his head.
