---- Sucking in a deep breath, I pulled. Nate threw his head back and roared. It almost made me stop. I knew that they healed fast. If I could get the thing out without causing any more injuries, he would heal and then he would be able to help Lucas. "It's really stuck," I gasped. My eyes darted around for something to use even though I knew there would be nothing. Dropping to my ass, I scooted closer and placed my feet on either of the stick.
I gripped it with both hands and sucked in a deep breath before I pulled. It got freed so suddenly that I fell back, the stick dropping from my hands and rolling away. Nate slowly stood and turned, showing me the other stick near his back. I pulled it out in the same way, but I was more prepared for the shock of it getting free. Pressing his snout to my stomach, he gave mea slight push. I dropped onto my ass with a gasp. Another push had me falling back.

Lucas's words echoed in my mind, "Stay down." I swallowed and then gave him a nod. Nate hesitated a few seconds before he turned and ---- took off in the direction Lucas disappeared in. My heart was beating a mile a minute. I was feeling sick. My shoulder throbbed where Lucas had bitten me, and the cold was only making it worse. Low grunts and pained cries filled my ears. There was a scream at one point too. Rolling onto my stomach, I glanced around. It was a mistake .
We were halfway down the mountain at a slope. One wrong move from me, and I would be tumbling to my death. Swallowing, I turned my head to the right and then to the left. The stick that was stuck in Nate's chest lay there. Blood coated one end of it. It was seeping into the snow too, creating a splotch of red. I licked my lips before I slowly crawled my way towards it. If someone wanted to kill me, I was going to be prepared. As long as they didn't inject me again.
My fingers wrapped around the stick, and a surprised gasp filled me. I expected it to be cold, but the warmth of it seeped into my skin, making me shiver. Irolled onto my back again and just in time, but not soon enough. A figure hovered above me, dressed in black winter gear. He held a similar stick in one gloved hand. Dark eyes watched me behind his goggles. ---- "Tt's nothing personal," the man hissed. I blinked at him, frozen in fear.
The man raised his weapon, sharp point in line with my heart. "T need to protect my family," he said as he raised the stick a few inches and slammed it down. His movement made me snap into action. I moved , but too late. I screamed when the sharp end got lodged in my shoulder, a few inches above my heart. The pain was sharp and numbing. Much worse than the pain of Lucas's bite. Aloud roar answered my scream. The stick dug deeper.
"Stop!" I heard someone yell through the sudden darkness that threatened to swallow me. "You kill her you kill our King!"
