---- It looked like she wanted to say more, but I kissed her to silence her instead. A sign fell from her lips as her body slumped against mine. I shivered when one hand slipped into my hair. Breaking the kiss, she rested her head against my shoulder. I pressed my cheek to the top of her head and hugged her tighter. "We don't have to worry about that right now," I told her. "The main priority is your safety." "Do you think it will stop her?" Angel questioned. [hesitated .
"Mother has a lot of old...friends . If she uses their weaknesses against them..." I shrugged as I left the sentence hanging in the air. If whoever she approached was desperate enough , they might try and go after our mate, but I was hoping that they would come to one of us first with a warning. Like the man who left us the letter. "We need a lot of friends ," she muttered . "We can't afford to make enemies." "T know." I squeezed her thigh.

It would be a lie if I said that I had faith in my people. I had only been king for a few years and although I had managed to build the people's trust, there were still a ---- few who didn't like the way I handled things. The car slowed and then came to a complete stop. "We're here," I told Angel. "Remember, just be yourself." She nodded and hurriedly climbed off my lap. The door opened a second later. I winked at her before I climbed out and then leaned down to hold out my hand to her.
Angel hesitated. She sucked in a breath and slowly blew it out as she placed her hand in mine. My eyes darted around as we walked up the bath towards the small house. The driver was behind us, carrying two boxes, and Xavier was behind him. I knocked on the door and stepped back to wrap my arm around her waist. Five minutes passed before the door was jerked open. I blinked at the kid who had opened the door. Her eyes widened and her mouth fell open and then slammed shut.
"King Lucas!" she exclaimed, suddenly flinging herself at my legs. Once the shock wore off, I gripped her shoulders and pushed her away a few inches so I could crouch in front of her. ---- "Hey, sweetheart. How are you?" "Fine." Her head lowered. "I miss my daddy and my brother." "T know." Reaching out, I tilted her head up and wiped her tears with my thumb. "Where's your mom?" Wiping her nose with the back of her hand, she glanced over her shoulder at the house. "She's feeding David.
Mommy told me not to open the door, but I forgot." My lips twitched . "That was bad of you, but I'm sure she won't mind if you tell her who came to visit." Her eyes lit up. "T'll go tell her." Before I could utter another word, she spun around and ran into the house, calling out for her mother. I flinched , knowing that if the baby was sleeping , he would be wide awake from all the yelling. "How am I supposed to do this?" Angel whispered . "Like you would on earth." She frowned at me.
Her lips parted but a woman appeared in the doorway before she could speak. "Your Highness," she greeted. ---- I placed a hand on her shoulder to stop her from bowing. My smile was a little forced when I caught her red-rimmed eyes. "My mate wanted to bring a few things for you. May my men carry the boxes in?" Her eyes darted over to Angel and then widened. "Of course. Please come in. It's cold outside." I glanced back at my men and gave them a nod as I pressed my hand to the small of Angel's back and urged her inside the home.
