---- 34. LUCAS Something was wrong. My beast was restless . 1 couldn't shake the thought that something was wrong, but I didn't know what. Nate assured me that Angel was fine when I talked to him half an hour ago. Sitting up, I ran a hand through my hair as I glanced over at Mason. "What's the matter?" he questioned . "The couch too hard for your liking?" I growled at him. The woman's house was small, only big enough for her family and not for extra guests.

We had offered to stay in case they needed something during the night, so she had made us beds in the living room. Could that be the reason for its restlessness ? Because I wasn't at home in my own bed. I knew we were safe because guards were keeping an eye on the house and the portal. "1'm going to get some fresh air," I told him as 1 pulled on my boots. Mason didn't reply. I moved as silently as I could to the front door. Pulling ---- it open, I hesitated a moment and then stepped outside.

The door clicked closed softly behind me. One of the guards turned and when he realized it was me, he bowed. I gave him a nod as I hurried past him. Before I realized it, I was standing in the center of town, staring at the portal. The men had disappeared into the portal. We never ran out of rope. There had been a tug on the ropes and a scream before all hell broke loose. We couldn't do anything, couldn't help them. And then the ropes went slack.

We pulled it back out of the portal and then found that the ends of the ropes were covered in blood. Whatever was inside that portal had killed them. A roar had my head snapping in the direction of the castle. I started running, kicking off my shoes and pulling off my clothes on the way. Within seconds, I was in the air and pushing myself to move fast. Nate was in trouble. I moved to the back of our private garden just in time to see Nate running out of the castle.

"Someone took Angel!" he yelled. "They used scent ---- blockers." "aren't they still in the castle?" I questioned. "Everyone's searching," Nate growled. "Pll search the grounds." I took off again, searching the castle grounds first. If it was someone who knew the castle well, they could be using the secret tunnels. But few people knew about it. Mother and Arabella. Both of them knew about the tunnels and both of them had a reason to hate Angel.

Mother was the first on my suspect list because of her hate for humans , and Arabella hated her because of our relationship . Arabella was pregnant and I was sure that she wouldn't be so stupid. Another roar echoed in the air. I answered with one of my own. I circled the castle, searching for any signs of suspicious movement. There were three exits to the secret tunnels. One of them led to town, another led to the creek. The third one led into the mountains. It took a few seconds before the thought hit me.
