---- Pulling away, Nate frowned down at me. "We usually do. Lucas will make sure that the family is well taken care of now that her husband passed." Sadness flooded me. "Do they have any other kids?" I asked him. "A baby boy that's only a few months old, and a little girl who just turned eight." I knew what it felt like losing a parent at such a young age. "T want to do something for them," I told him. "I don't know what yet, but I want to do something for them." He smiled.
"You think about it while I go make those calls. 1 won't be more than an hour." "You'll come back when you're done?" "Yes, Mason and Lucas will be staying with the family in town, but they should be back early tomorrow morning." "Okay." Leaning down, he pressed a kiss to the corner of my lips. "You probably want your shirt, huh?" "Keep it," Nate ordered as he pulled on his pants.

"I ---- like seeing it on you." Colour flooded my cheeks, but the smile stayed on my lips even after he left the room. Walking over to the mirror I studied my reflection. His shirt was three sizes too big. I twirled this way and that before I walked away. The smile faded as my mind trailed to the family who had just lost two members. There wasn't much that could be done for a kid who just lost a father and a brother .
And then there was the mother who had a baby to look after which made it harder to mourn the loss of her husband. I was sure that she had friends and other family members to support her, but I wanted to help in any way I could even if we were strangers. Taking a seat on the couch, I placed the notepad down on my thigh and readied the pen. I started making a list of things the family might need while they mourned. Lucas was already taking care of the funeral so that wasn't going to be a problem.
But there were also the guards. I made a note to find out more about them before I continued with my list. Asound made me freeze , but when I heard nothing more, I continued. Until movement from the corner of ---- my eyes made my head snap up. Ascream rose in my throat and the man stormed over to me. I threw the notepad at him and made a run for the door, but I only managed a few steps before I was jerked back by my hair. The scream escaped.
I sucked in another breath to scream but it ended up being a whimper of pain as a needle pierced the skin of my arm. My eyes locked on the syringe. I was being injected with pink liquid. My lips parted, but no words escaped as my body went numb. The man who injected me straightened and stared down at me. He had a black ski mask covering his face and was dressed in all-black clothing. A bang echoed around the room as the bedroom door opened. Relief flooded me. Nate had come.
But it wasn't him who entered the room. "T had warned you, human," a familiar voice growled as she stepped into view. "You should have left when I gave you the chance."
