---- "Fifth," Nate corrected him. My eyes darted between them. They were busy eating like nothing was happening. How could they be so calm when a storm was about to break out? Arabella stood and fixed her dress. "I'll sign the papers as soon as you have them ready. Once the divorce has been finalized , I will be returning to my home." When Lucas didn't reply, she spun around and hurried out of the room as fast as she could with her big belly.
"Do you have any idea what kind of problems this is going to cause?" their mother exploded the moment the door closed behind her. "My personal life has nothing to do with the people," Lucas stated. "Someone that will walk in your steps and take care of the kingdom when something happens to you." "Nate and Mason are there to look after things when I'm unable to." "Your own blood, Lucas!" he growled. "They are my blood." ---- I was starting to get uncomfortable. The conversation had nothing to do with me. "Tt's not the same." Silence settled as they continued to glare at each other. That was until their mother spoke up again. "T told you it was a mistake to make him King.
He never understood the value of our kingdom. Nate would have been much better suited as King." With that as her parting words, she stormed out of the room. A few seconds passed before their father followed. Mason sighed. "What a great dinner, brother. We should do it again sometime." Lucas growled at him. "How long have you known about the affair?" Nate asked his brother. I looked at Lucas when he didn't immediately answer him. He was busy cutting a piece of the meat on his plate.
After taking a bite of it and slowly chewing, he finally answered. "A few weeks." "And you're positive that the baby isn't yours?" Images of Arabella and Lucas together flashed ---- through my mind. I didn't like it at all. I didn't want to imagine them together. "Yes," Nate sighed loudly. "You know this is going to cause unrest in the kingdom ," Mason muttered. "Everyone was looking forward to the birth of a new prince." "You didn't sound that excited," Nate said.
"You sounded jealous the moment you found out about the pregnancy." "T did not!" Mason pointed his fork at Nate. "You were the jealous one." Rolling his eyes, Nate took a sip of his drink and turned his attention to Lucas. I studied him as they talked. He looked tired. There were lines of stain etched into his skin. It almost seemed like he aged a few years since the last time I saw him. I could only imagine how hard it must be for him.
To find out that your wife was cheating on you and that the baby you wanted wasn't yours. Did he love her? He married her so he must love her because I couldn't imagine them getting married without love.
