---- 83. LUCAS Iheld my breath as I waited for her to react. Blurting it out was not how I had planned to tell her. Nate had offered to tell her the news, but I felt it was important that I be the one to tell her that. I killed Dorothy after all. We had tried to talk to her. Giving her a chance to make things right. She would have been locked up but her chances of being freed if she cooperated were high. But the moment I turned my back, she tried to kill me. I reacted.
I killed our mother to protect myself, my brothers, my mate, and any future children we might have. It was better this way. That was what Nate told me after he had covered her body. We would never have to worry about her ever again. But it didn't make it hurt any less. She was our mother, and I had killed her as if she was nothing. It wasn't like she had smothered us with love. She was never a mother to us. But she had been our blood.

---- "Lucas." Iblinked to find Angel standing in front of me. There were a lot of emotions flashing through her eyes, but I couldn't make sense of any of them. I expected her to be angry at me. To be scared of me after what I had done. Soft fingers curled around my wrist and tugged. I followed her to the couch and allowed her to push me down onto it. Angel climbed onto my lap and wrapped her arms around my neck again. Tears burned my eyes as she held me. "Tt's okay," she whispered. "Let it out.
I'm here." I fought the emotions until I couldn't any longer. A sob escaped and it was soon followed by another. Before I knew it, I was clinging to her as I cried. Once the tears stopped, I pulled away from her. Angel reached up and gently wiped the remaining tears from my cheeks. There was a tenderness in her eyes that made my stomach roll with unease. Nobody has ever looked at me the way she was. "Do you want to tell me what happened ?" she asked softly.
"It's okay if you don't want to discuss it." ---- I thought about it for a few minutes before I started talking. I told her everything that happened since we left the castle and made our way to Sutton. I hesitated over some details but decided it was best if she knew everything. She needed to hear it from me and not someone else. Angel stayed silent as I told her everything. She swallowed as her eyes darted over my face. When I fell silent, she leaned forward and kissed my cheek.
"T'm proud of you," she said softly. "I know what you did was hard despite the rocky relationship you had with her." "We tried to give her a chance to back down," I croaked. "We were willing to talk things out, but the moment we turned our backs..." I sucked in a shaky breath. "She went after Nate, and I couldn't let her." Gripping the back of my neck, she guided my face to her shoulder. "Tt's okay." Wrapping my arms around her waist, I hugged her tightly.
I sucked in a deep breath, breathing in her scent. It was mixed with ours but our scents started to fade alittle. Turning my head, I opened my mouth and pressed a kiss to her skin. Angel shuddered.
