---- 35. ANGEL Everything was hazy. It felt like I was stuck in a fever dream. No matter what I did, I couldn't get my body to react. At the back of my mind, I knew that I had to fight. I had no idea where I was, but I knew that I was in trouble. Cold was seeping into my skin. I couldn't feel my feet or hands at all. My stomach was twisting with nausea from whatever they injected me. They were talking, but I couldn't make sense of their words. A low growl startled the men.

Before I could even make sense of things, I was dropped onto the ground. I caught sight of something big moving towards the men before everything faded into darkness. 2 We were flying. I was flying. My cheek rested against warm scaly skin. I could hear the powerful flap of its wings as we flew through the ---- air. Had I been kidnapped by another dragon? Icouldn't see a thing, so I wasn't sure whether we were heading back to the castle. What happened to the men who kidnapped me?

I didn't have time to think about it because we were suddenly falling. My stomach twisted, bile rising in my throat. I might have puked, I wasn't sure, because in the next second everything faded into darkness again. sek Warmth surrounded me. It flooded into my skin, chasing away the cold. Shivering , I snuggled deeper under the thick blanket that covered me. My fingers brushed over it. It didn't feel like a normal blanket, not that it mattered.

It was soft and warm and that was all that mattered at the moment. I finally opened my eyes and blinked at the blazing fire a few feet away. The flames created dark shadows along the rocky walls. "You're safe," a familiar voice said softly as a figure approached from the other side of the fire. "How are you feeling?" I licked my lips and swallowed to find my mouth as dry as the Sahara Desert.

---- Kneeling in front of me, Lucas slipped a hand under my shoulders and pulled me up as he pressed something lukewarm to my lips. Shivering , I gripped his wrist and took a few sips of the liquid he was offering. It burned down my throat and settled in my upset stomach. After only a few sips, he pulled it away and lowered me back to the floor. He tugged the blankets over me again and used his fingertips to move my hair away from my face. "Where are we?" I croaked.

"My den." "Den?" "Tt's a cave in the mountains that nobody knows about," he explained . "Big enough for me to fit into when I'm shifted." "You rescued me." "Are you warm enough ?" he questioned instead of commenting on my words. Inodded. "Tt's not something fancy but as long as you're comfortable..." "What happened to those men?" ---- Lucas hesitated. "They're dead." "Good." I winced when I realized how it sounded , but Lucas pressed a kiss to my forehead and straightened.

"They injected me," I whispered as my fingers traced over the spot the needle had pierced my skin. "It made my body go numb before I passed out." Lucas moved away and returned a few minutes later. I froze when he settled on his side next to me. After hesitating for a few seconds, he lifted the blankets and got under them. A low moan fell from my lips when his skin brushed mine. Turning onto my side, I moved closer to him.

I pressed my face to the crook of his neck and wrapped an arm around his waist. Lucas was frozen for a few seconds before he moved. He slipped one of his arms under my head and wrapped the other around me to pull me closer to his body. "How did you know someone kidnapped me?" I asked him to break the silence that hung between us. "My beast was restless ," Lucas answered softly. "I went outside for some fresh air when I heard Nate roar."
